Two Encaustic paintings by Robert McGehee in the faculty show at Bosque Gallery last year.
We were all saddened yesterday when we learned our dear friend and colleague Robert McGehee had passed away. Robert had been so brave in his valiant determination to win his battle with cancer. He was admitted to MD Anderson late last week with pneumonia but this time his body was just too weak.
He passed away around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning. His partner Dave and his family were with him when he passed.
Robert was instrumental in bringing Encaustics to Lonestar College-CyFair where he was a member of the Fine Art Faculty. He held two Encaustic workshops a year, during the fall and spring semesters, offering them through Continuing Ed. He was instrumental in securing the Encaustic Exhibition in the school's Bosque Gallery every other year.
Robert was a founding member of TexasWAX/Houston and actively participated when he could.
He was an excellent art instructor, artist and good friend.
We will miss him.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church.
